Life and Gaming... [Aug. 11th, 2007|03:01 pm]
You know, recently, I've lost alot of interest in gaming. I'm not partically sure as to why, but I've only been able to keep my interest in a few games that I've played in the past. Of course, maybe I'm going through another depression face, but I'd like to keep my personal life off the internet.

However, recently I was replaying a game most people will know here as Threads of Fate. However, I decided to play the Japanese version of this game, which the fan community knows as DewPrism (デュープリズム). One thing I liked about the game was it's difficulty was nicely balanced. The characters were also an interest couple to play, especially Mint.

Another game I was playing was the overly liked Final Fantasy VII (ファイナルファンタジーVII), mainly because It's been years since I played through the entire game. I originally played this back when I was 8 or 9, which was back in 1998. Playing this almost 10 years later, I have to wonder why this reached such a popular status in the RPG community. If anything, the other final fantasy games after this were either better or just as good as this, particuarly 9. Though, I do like the fact the game still carried over the deformed look from the past Final Fantasy games, which Final Fantasy IX & Crystal Chronicles (not including the remakes of Final Fantasy III & IV) are the last ones to do this.

Other game I am still currently playing and messing around with is SaGa Frontier (サガ フロンティア), one of my most favorite, yet hated games. Reason being, is the game has a nice likeable, yet addicting battle system, as well as some basic gameplay that you can easily enjoy. However, on the flip side, why is it one of my most hated games? The difficulty is extremely high in some spots, making it extremely difficult. To make matters worse, you go from an unfair balance between the last couple Bosses in some area's.

For example, in Asellus's game, the bosses just before the Final Boss, are easily manageable at low stats. However, the final Boss after this point, can dish out a good chunk of your HP, much more so than the bosses before this. And it's also unfair that she can attack the party up to three times (or 4 sometimes) after you knock her HP down to half.

Another reason I hate the game, is because there's alot of plot elements left unsolved. This was mainly a time issue with Square-Enix (SquareSoft at the time). However, the Essence of SaGa, which was released, did explain alot of these plotholes and missing elements.

Still, despite this, it's still a fun and addicting game.

Anyways, I could go on with SaGa Frontier, but I'd be here for hours. But these have been the games I've been currently playing. Odd thing, is they're all PSX games. Maybe I just can't stop liking the older set of games..

Anyways, Mendinso is out...

Game #3 - Kokoro Scan...? [Aug. 11th, 2007|02:57 pm]
This is basically a a new game by Sega of Japan, which will be released this August in Japan. I'll update this a bit more (hopefully this time) once I read over the information on the game.

The trailer is basically a long song, with several people talking about some problems in their life, or asking for help. Though, apparently the only thing the person can give advice for is "your heart".

Game #2: Tomba... Ore! Tonba... Tomb...i? [May. 9th, 2007|05:17 pm]
God, talk about nostolgic. A couple months back, I came across the japanese Tomba game, known as Ore!Tomba (オレっ!トンバ) in Japan, and Tombi in Europe regions for some reason.

Anyways, finally getting a chance to play the japanese version, I was rather excited. Though there are only a few noticable changes between the US release and Japanese release, really. One of the first differences was the opening song:

It was nice to hear the original lyrics for the song. Though, thankfully the US version edition kept the background music, unlike the European release. The only thing I was a little surprised about (and it's evident and every video sequence) was the lack of sound effects. This is a problem throughout the game, as if Japan didn't have time to add in the sound effects. One of the bad examples I can think of is when the Hundred-Year Old Man is talking, his lipflap is actually out of sync, as well as no sound effects anywhere there should be. Despite this though, it was nice to hear the voices in the cutscenes in Japanese.

Another difference, which I didn't notice until it was pointed out to me, was the game uses lower resolution models than the US/European release. Though, this is a minor difference and doesn't really effect gameplay.

Regardless, controls? Still the same as the US edition. Though the menu is a bit more of a choir to get through. Reason being is Sony of America decided to completely redo the menu system, and quite frankly, I'm glad. The japanese menu is a mess, as it's complicated to move around if you don't have knowledge of Japanese. It doesn't help some of the menus don't show up if you enter through it a certain way (through start or a combination of buttons.). Fortently, while I understand the menu options, as well as items, I weep for those who have to memorize what items/menus and what not.

Regardless the fact the japanese version is a bit less than the American release, I still am enjoying it. I haven't finished it yet, but I'll update it as I go along. The only thing I'm not 100% sure of is if the names have been changed, as I no longer have the US edition of the game. Though I suppose I could easily check with the faqs around various sites.

SaGa Frontier - Solo Battle #1 [Jan. 21st, 2007|06:46 am]
[Tags|, , , ]

This was actually my first solo video I recorded on my Solo playthrough on SaGa Frontier with Blue. I would have had a couple others, but I wasn't able to record it (or I forgot to set it up to record.). Regardless, this fight took a couple tries, because I kept forgetting to equip a few dodge abilities that I had. The main one I was worried about was Charm attack.

One thing I was rather surprised about, was the fact that Bosses can run out of WP and MP. I usually thought they'd have unlimited points for those, but turns out I was wrong. You'll see why near the end of the boss fight.

[mood | bored]

I'm surprised I didn't post anything in here sooner. Though it's a little odd for me, because of probably no one will read this. Regardless, I'll be posting videos here on my daily gaming experiences (hopefully anyways). Most my videos will be located on youtube.
